Bullard, Marion Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Field Awards

NEW YORK – In its final set of weekly awards for the 2016 outdoor season, the BIG EAST Conference announced on Tuesday that Marquette University sophomores Maya Marion and Maxwell Bullard have been named Field Athletes of the Week.

For the third time this season, Marquette field athletes have swept the BIG EAST weekly awards thanks to outstanding performances by Bullard and Marion at the Wisconsin Twilight meet on Friday, May 6.

Bullard put himself atop the BIG EAST shot put leaderboard following a personal-best and fifth-place finish on Friday with a mark of 16.73 meters (54 feet, 10.75 inches). His throw ranks 76th in the West Region. The Overland Park, Kansas native also contributed solid marks in the discus (43.82 meters) and hammer throw (47.44 meters).

Marion jumped into the top spot on the BIG EAST shot put leaderboard as well after setting a personal-best with a throw of 14.93 meters (48 feet, 11.75 inches), which placed her fifth on Friday. The Aurora, Illinois native also recorded a fifth place finish in the hammer throw (48.07 meters) and took 11th in the discus (39.80 meters).

Both are looking to score big this weekend as Marquette prepares for the 2016 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships set for Friday-Saturday, May 13-14, in Geneva, Ohio.
