MILWAUKEE - Six Marquette University track and field student-athletes have made their way to Austin, Texas, and will begin competition on Thursday afternoon at the West Preliminary Rounds of the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Action is slated to begin at Mike A. Myers Stadium at noon on Thursday, May 23 and continue throughout the weekend until its conclusion on Saturday evening with the men's 4x400-meter relay.

Senior Sarah MacCourtney and junior Carlye Schuh will compete in the women's high jump and long jump, respectively, while junior Kathryn Koeck will participate in the hammer throw.

On the men's side, William Koeck will throw the hammer and Kyle Winter and Jack Hackett will run the 800- and 5,000-meter runs, respectively.

The Golden Eagles will be represented by their largest contingent of student-athletes since they sent eight to Austin in 2010.

Winter, who also ran the 800-meter run in 2011 in Eugene, Ore., is the lone Marquette student-athlete competing this year to have previously participated in an NCAA Championship event. The Wales, Wis., native placed 37th in the 800 with a time of 1:51.96 in 2011, five spots above his seeded placement in the West Region.

All athletes in Austin will attempt to advance through this weekend's preliminary rounds to compete in the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 5-8 in Eugene, Ore. Standards for advancement vary by event and are listed below with each individual.

Kathryn Koeck will be the first MU athlete to compete when the women's hammer throw begins at 2 p.m. on Thursday. Koeck notched her best throw this year in the first meet of the season at the USF Bulls Invitational on March 14 in Tampa, Fla., with a toss of 193 feet, 3 inches (58.91), the second-best mark in program history. The Winneconne, Wis., native also placed fourth in the event for the Golden Eagles at the 2013 BIG EAST Conference Outdoor Championships.

Schuh will follow Koeck in the women's long jump at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The Appleton, Wis., native was Marquette's top finisher at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships earlier this month when she set a new program record in the long jump with a top leap of 20 feet, 1 1/2 inches (6.13 meters) to place second. Schuh recorded five top-two finishes this season and was MU's lone All-BIG EAST honoree.

Winter will run on Thursday at 8:35 p.m. to conclude the first day of competition for the Golden Eagles. The 2012 BIG EAST outdoor 800-meter run champion, Winter posted his season-best time of 1:50.24 to place fourth at this year's BIG EAST meet and sits third in MU history with a personal best of 1:49.84.

Should Winter advance past Thursday's first round, he would compete on Friday at 7:15 p.m. in the event's quarterfinals.

William Koeck will kick off Friday's action in the men's hammer at 2 p.m. Koeck set a new program record in the event on April 13 at the Lee Calhoun Invitational and topped the mark on April 26 with his current personal best of 196 feet, 6 inches (59.91 meters). The sophomore notched four first-place finishes this season and a fourth-place finish at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.

The lone senior competing for the women, Sarah MacCourtney will partake in the high jump at 6 p.m. on Friday and redshirt senior Jack Hackett will be the lone Marquette representative on Saturday in the men's 5k.

Hackett ran one of the most impressive races of the season for the Golden Eagles at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 19 in Walnut, Calif., where he turned in the second-fastest time in MU history (14:05.66).
