Official CoSIDA Release

MILWAUKEE – Marquette University junior Eric Fellin has been named to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District VI First Team for men’s track and field/cross country as voted on by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom.

Fellin has a 3.89 cumulative grade point average with a double-major in biochemistry and molecular biology. The fall semester marked his fifth-straight as a Dean’s List honoree and he’s poised to claim his third-straight BIG EAST All-Academic selection when it’s announced later this year. He’s the first academic all-district selection for track and field/cross country since Peter Bolgert and Olivia Johnson claimed all-America honors back in 2012.

The Portland, Oregon, native, who specializes in the javelin, followed up a third-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships in 2017 by taking fourth place earlier this month. He earned BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week honors on April 2 after placing second at the Joey Haines Invite and then later bested that mark with the No. 2 throw all-time of 59.98 meters (196 feet, 9 inches) to place first at the Illinois Twilight.

All first team all-district honorees advance to the Google Cloud All-America ballot with Google Cloud Academic All-America Teams announced in June.

To be eligible for national or regional selection, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.0, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at his current institution and be nominated by his sports information director. The Academic All-America team is selected after All-District teams are picked from eight geographic regions nationally.
