MILWAUKEE - Marquette junior distance runner Peter Bolgert was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V men's track and field/cross country first team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Thursday. Bolgert was the only junior named to the team.

"Peter has had a solid year both athletically and academically," head coach Bert Rogers said. "It shows that hard work pays off, both in the classroom and on the track. I am very happy and proud of Peter."

Bolgert, a junior from Sheboygan, Wis., entered the 2010 spring semester with a perfect 4.0 grade point average as a mathematics and physics major and just completed his junior year at Marquette with a 3.985 GPA. He will now appear on the national ballot for Academic All-America recognition which will be announced Thursday, June 24.

After marching up the school record lists during the 2009-10 campaign, Bolgert capped the season with an appearance in the 2010 West Preliminary Round of the NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas on May 28 in the steeplechase. Bolgert placed 25th in the region with a time of 9:05.01.

He had moved into second place in the Marquette record books with a 9:01.04 mark in the steeplechase at the Mount San Antonio College Relays on April 15 and bettered that time with a personal best 8:54.76 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships on May 1. Bolgert was also able to record the sixth-fastest time (3:49.58) in MU history in the 1,500-meter run on April 17 at the Beach Invitational.

Bolgert will return for his senior year in the steeplechase, making a formidable duo in the event with sophomore Blake Johnson, who finished four spots behind Bolgert at the West Preliminary Round.
