Marquette Athletes Finish Competition at USA Junior Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Marquette University freshmen track and field athletes Kristen Gaffey, Zack Grese, Bret Hardin and Carlye Schuh competed Friday afternoon at the 2011 USA Outdoor Track and Field Junior Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.

Hardin was Marquette’s top finisher in eighth place to earn USA Junior All-America honors with a distance of 192 feet, 9 inches (58.77 meters) in the men’s hammer throw. Grese was the only other MU student-athlete to place in the top-10 of his respective event as he was 10th in the men’s 10,000-meter run in 32:32.76.

In the women’s long jump, Schuh placed 12th with a leap of 18 feet ¼ inch (5.49 meters), while Gaffey was 14th in the shot put with a top toss of 40 feet, 11 ½ inches (12.48 meters).

The USA Track and Field Championships continuse through June 26 at Hayward Field.
