Ellenson to Compete at USATF Outdoor Championships
June 24, 2015
Ellenson, who is seeded ninth in the competition, will compete in his first non-junior USATF Championship event when he takes flight Friday, June 26. He will go up against the best leapers in the country that features a mix of the top collegiate talent and several professionals who have established themselves as the nation's elite.
The Rice Lake, Wisconsin native has had a remarkable season thus far and is no stranger to competing among the elite in his class. His All-American performance at the NCAA Track & Field Championships on June 12 was his third such honor during outdoor competition and fourth overall. In March, he registered a third-place finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships.
On top of setting records in just his first season at Marquette, the junior won both BIG EAST Conference indoor and outdoor high jump titles. Overall, Ellenson has claimed first place in his marquee event eight times between indoor and outdoor competition.
Back in 2013, following his freshman year at the University of Minnesota, Ellenson took second place at the USA Junior National Championships to qualify for the Pan American Junior Championships in Medellin, Colombia, where he won the gold medal.
Ellenson's career-best jump is 2.28 meters (7-5.75 feet), which he cleared in his first competition as a Golden Eagle at the Wisconsin Open back in January. It was that mark that qualified him for a spot in this weekend's USATF Outdoor Championships in Eugene.
The meet will begin Thursday, June 25 with the high jump set for a 7:40 p.m. Central time start on Friday, June 26.
