Two Throwers to Compete at Canadian Championships
June 26, 2014
MILWAUKEE – Senior Samantha Kennedy and sophomore John Krzyszkowski of the Marquette University men’s and women’s track teams are set to compete at the 2014 Canadian Track & Field Championships, starting June 27 in Moncton, New Brunswick.
Krzyszkowski will compete in the men’s javelin at 7:15 p.m. Central time on Saturday, June 28 and Kennedy in the women’s hammer throw at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday, June 29.
This will be Kennedy’s second trip to the national meet, as the Surrey, British Columbia, native placed 11th in the women’s hammer throw at the 2012 Canadian Championships and won gold in the same event at the 2012 Junior Championships.
Kennedy met the qualification distance of 55 meters (180 feet, 5 inches) seven times during Marquette’s 2014 outdoor season, with her personal-best mark of 56.13 meters (184 feet, 2 inches) coming in the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Based on that throw, she is seeded 10th among the 19 competitors.
Krzyszkowski will look to build upon the experience he gained last summer at the 2013 Canadian Junior Championships, where he took second in the men’s javelin and finished 10th in men’s shot put.
Krzyszkowski also had no problem besting the men’s javelin qualification standard of 61 meters (200 feet, 2 inches). He did it three times during his first outdoor season with the Golden Eagles and registered his best mark for MU in the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships with a toss of 65.31 meters (214 feet, 3 inches).
His personal-best throw of 68.67 meters (225 feet, 4 inches), which he scored in the 2013 Canada Summer Games, has him seeded seventh among 10 throwers at the 2014 Canadian Championships.
