Season Comes to a Close For Ellenson at USA Outdoors
June 26, 2015
The competition opened at 2.15 meters (7-0.5 feet) and 14 of the 18 jumpers who started the event cleared the height. It took Ellenson two attempts as he brushed the bar on his opening jump. Just six entries were able to advance to the next height after one attempt.
The second height moved up to 2.20 meters (7-2.5 feet), but the junior was unable to clear the mark. He was one of five that were eliminated from the competition on that particular mark. Ellenson and four others tied for 12th place.
The winner of the competition was Erik Kynard of Brand Jordan who cleared a height of 2.37 meters (7-9.75 feet).
The Rice Lake, Wisconsin native's season comes to an end, but not before a record-breaking campaign. Ellenson claimed both indoor and outdoor BIG EAST Conference titles, he broke the indoor conference record, set the Marquette school record and claimed All-American honors for the third-straight year in outdoor competition and fourth time overall.
A dual-sport standout, Ellenson will be eligible to compete on the Marquette men's basketball team in 2015-16 after sitting out the previous season due to NCAA transfer rules. He will continue to jump for the Golden Eagles as well next season and, in an Olympic year, pursue a roster spot on Team USA for the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
