MU Alumni Complete Action at Canadian Championships

July 10, 2017

OTTAWA, Ontario - Marquette University alumni John Krzyszkowski ('17) and Samantha Kennedy ('15) completed action at the Canadian Track & Field Championships over the weekend.

Krzyszkowski, who recently captured his fourth BIG EAST championship and appeared in his fourth NCAA regional at Marquette, took the silver medal in the javelin - his highest-ever finish at the meet.

The Mississauga, Ontario, native led the competition after his second and farthest throw of the night with a distance of 69.77 meters. However, he was bested by Evan Karakolis with a mark of 73.71 meters. Krzyszkowski registered three marks over 69 meters on the day.

His previous best finish was one year ago in Edmonton, Alberta, when he took the bronze medal. Krzyszkowski remains Marquette's record-holder in the javelin with a mark of 72.23 meters.

Kennedy started the hammer competition with a strong mark of 56.32 meters, which had her in seventh place after round one. Her final three successful marks were all over 52 meters, but none farther than her first throw. The Surrey, B.C., native, who was the 2014 BIG EAST champion and still ranks atop the freshman list and second all-time at Marquette, placed ninth in the event.
