MILWAUKEE - Marquette's newest women's track and field signee Sam Kennedy is the GoMarquette.com Opus Student-Athlete of the Week after placing sixth in the hammer throw at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships on July 22 in Miramar, Fla.
Kennedy placed sixth with a top toss of 169 feet, 5 inches (51.65 meters) to earn three points for Team Canada. The Surrey, British Columbia native was the highest placing Canadian in the event, finishing one spot ahead of the Canadian Junior National Champion.
She will arrive on campus in August with four years of eligibilty remaining at Marquette, including another year of competition on the junior level.

Kelly led all scorers with five goals at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II U19 Championship while playing with her club team, Mallorca. Kelly scored both goals in a 2-1 win over CASA (Ohio) and in a 2-0 win over Iowa Rush in the preliminary round. She added a goal in a 2-2 draw with Eclipse Select before Mallorca won in penalty kicks, 3-2, in the semifinals to advance to the Region II Championship game. Mallorca fell in the title game, 2-0, to Minnesota's Woodbury Inferno.
||Check posted a clean sheet in a 5-0 win for Milwaukee Bavarian SC over Eau Claire Aris FC on Saturday, July 9, as the goalkeeper helped Bavarian clinch its first National Premier Soccer League Midwest Division Championship and earn a berth in the NPSL finals later this month.

||Johnson earned Captial One Academic All-America® First Team regognition on June 23, joining men's runner Peter Bolgert as the first Marquette student-athletes to earn first team honors since 1997. The Milford, Iowa native sports a perfect 4.0 grade point average in Marquette's nationally recognized accounting program.
