Men's Track & Field Picks Up More Hardware

CLEVELAND
– The Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association recently announced its 2014-15 All-Sports trophy winners and Marquette University was honored for its success in men’s indoor track and field.

The Division I-AAA Athletic Directors Association is administered by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and recognizes the 98 Division I institutions that do not sponsor football. A total of 17 sports were included to recognize schools for their success in 2014-15. 

Marquette turned in its best finish at the 2015 BIG EAST Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, taking runner-up honors thanks to five individual event winners. Sophomore Wally Ellenson won the high jump crown and set a BIG EAST record with a leap of 7 feet, 3.25 inches on the way to being named Most Outstanding Field Athlete. Redshirt-senior Marcell KirkmanBey raced to a title in the 60-meter hurdles, while sophomore Joel Swanberg doubled-up as champion in both the pole vault and heptathlon.

Marquette men's track and field would go on to place second at the 2015 BIG EAST Outdoor Championship meet as well.

The University of Denver earned the top prize, taking the All-Sports Trophy for its success across the board during the 2014-15 academic year, which included a national title in men’s lacrosse.

baseball – Charleston, Pepperdine, Radford, St. John’s, UNC Wilmington, Wright State; men’s basketball – Gonzaga; women’s basketball – Gonzaga; men’s cross country – Portland; women’s cross country – Iona; men’s golf – Wichita State; women’s golf – Pepperdine; men’s soccer – Providence and UMBC; women’s soccer – Pepperdine; softball – Binghamton, Cal State Northridge, Fairfield, Hofstra, Longwood, Oakland, St. John’s University and South Carolina Upstate; men’s tennis – Pepperdine; women’s tennis – Pepperdine and DePaul; men’s indoor track & field – Marquette; women’s indoor track & field – Providence; men’s outdoor track & field – Binghamton; women’s outdoor track & field – Providence; and women’s volleyball – UALR and Long Beach State.
