Johnson, Roth and Szczech Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

MILWAUKEE –Thrower Jamie Roth of the Marquette University women’s track and field team and runners Blake Johnson and Nick Szczech of the men’s team were named to the 2011 USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Track and Field teams, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced. The group represents collegiate track & field’s best in both athletics and academics.

“Jamie, Blake and Nick are great examples of Marquette student-athletes,” head coach Bert Rogers said. “Their hard work and dedication to their academics and to their craft has paid off in their success this year. I am very proud and happy for each of them.”

Last season, Johnson, Szcech, Peter Bolgert, Janye Grebinski, Olivia Johnson and Rachel Thiel each earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).



Institutions given All-Academic Team status will be named on Wednesday, Aug. 10 (men) and Thursday, Aug. 11 (women).
