Aug. 6, 2008

MILWAUKEE - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has announced that Marquette athletes Jayne Grebinski, Cassie Peller and Rachel Thiel have been named to the 2008 USTFCCCA Division I Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team, while the Marquette women's track and field squad was named as a Division 1 All-Academic Team.

A record total of 468 student-athletes representing 140 Division I institutions composed the women's 2008 All-Academic team and 117 Division I women's track and field programs were recognized as 2008 USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Teams. The Big 12 Conference, the Big East Conference, and the Big Ten Conference led all conferences with eight member schools each on the All-Academic team list.

The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals and teams for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event. Teams had to compile a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Grebinski and Thiel each set school records during the 2008 outdoor season. Grebinski finished the 5000-meter run in 16:45.96, while Thiel's distance of 48' 11" in the shot put captured the top spot.
