Track and Field Names 2013-14 Captains

Senior Carlye Schuh will lead the women's jumps group

MILWAUKEE—Head coach Bert Rogers has announced the eight team captains for the Marquette University’s men’s and women’s track and field teams for the 2013-14 season.

The men are led by seniors Michael Saindon, Jack Senefeld, Connor Stengel and Patrick Stuart, while Hannah Frett, Kristen Gaffey, Katie Kemmerer and Carlye Schuh will lead the women’s squad. Frett, Gaffey and Senefeld all return for their second stints as captain, each serving in 2012-13.

Schuh, a long jump, triple jump and short sprints specialist, will lead the women’s jumps group in 2013-14. Schuh, the Appleton, Wis., native, earned ALL- BIG EAST honors in the long jump and was tabbed MVP for the women’s team last season. Schuh holds both the indoor and outdoor program record for the long jump.

The women’s throws squad is led by Kristen Gaffey, who holds the third best shot put toss in Marquette’s outdoor program history. The Iowa City, Iowa native also participates in the discus, where she holds the sixth-best mark in program history. Gaffey has finished in the top 10 four times at the BIG EAST Championships in her tenure at MU.



Frett will represent the women’s distance team. The Waukesha, Wis., native, who has been a consistent asset to the women’s track and field team over the years, participates in the 3,000-and 5,000-meter runs.

The women’s sprinting group is led by Katie Kemmerer. The Victoria, Minn., native holds the fifth-best indoor 400-meter run and the ninth-best indoor 200-meter run in program history.

Saindon, a Wausau, Wis., native, will lead the men in the jumping events. Saindon holds the No.4 all-time mark in both the indoor and outdoor high jump. He also competes in the long jump and triple jump for the Golden Eagles.

Senefeld, who has served as captain for both cross country and track, does a little bit of everything for the team, and will lead the men’s distance squad. The Plover, Wis., native holds the fifth-best indoor 1,000-meter run time in program history, as well as the No. 6 all-time mark in the 3,000.

Stuart captains the men’s throws squad. The Glasgow, Ky., native, notched a ninth place finish in the shot put at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships last season and also competes in the weight throw, hammer throw and discus and javelin events.

The men’s side of the sprints group is led by Connor Stengel. The Sheboygan, Wis., native holds the No. 9 all-time indoor mark in the 400-meter run in program history. He also competes in the sprinting events ranging from 300-600 meters.

The Marquette University track and field team kicks off their indoor season Friday, Dec. 6, in Notre Dame, Ind., at the Blue & Gold Invitational hosted by the Fighting Irish.
