MILWAUKEE - Marquette University’s track and field teams kick off their 2014-15 indoor season at the Blue & Gold Invitational held inside the Loftus Sports Center on the campus of Notre Dame in on Friday, Dec. 5.

The Golden Eagles have opened its season at the Invitational every season since 2007.

Events begin at 4 p.m. C.T. starting with the women’s high jump and men’s pole vault. At 5 p.m. C.T. the women will compete in the 60-meter hurdle trials. Competition concludes at 8:15 p.m. when the men compete in the 4x400 relay.

“We are looking forward to starting the season on Friday at Notre Dame,” head coach Bert Rogers said. “It has been a very good fall in terms of training and the team is excited to finally compete against some other teams. After graduating a number of seniors, this will be a good spot for the coaches to see just what we have in the sprints and jumps this year.  It will also be a nice opportunity for the freshmen to get their feet wet in a collegiate meet, and for the veterans to see where we are with our training.”

The Golden Eagles will send their jumpers and sprinters to compete with former BIG EAST rival the Fighting Irish, as well as Bethel, DePaul, Detroit-Mercy, Loyola Chicago, and Northern Illinois’ women.

At last year’s meet four Golden Eagles captured event titles, including now sophomore Omo Tseumah who took first place in the high jump at 1.62 meters. Junior John Kaplan also had a career day during last year’s Invitational by posting a personal-record of 4.75 meters (15-7) to claim a victory in the pole vault.

The women put in a strong performance in the 4x400 relay in the finale of last year’s meet, coming in second place with a time of 3:53.76. However, Anna Strong, who ran the second leg, is the only returner from last year’s relay team.

Junior Anton Rice finished second last time out at Notre Dame in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.83. Fellow junior Brett Tobin also took home second place in the triple jump in 2013.

Senior Glenn Lawrence Jr. is looking to improve on a fifth place finish (7.14) in the 60m dash in 2013’s competition.

The Golden Eagles will return to Notre Dame on Feb. 6 and 7 for the Meyo Invitational.
