Track and Field Opens Indoor Season Friday At Notre Dame
Dec. 4, 2008
MILWAUKEE— The Marquette track and field team will kick off it's indoor season at the Notre Dame Blue and Gold Invitational on Friday at the Loftus Sports Center in Notre Dame, Ind. The first field events are set to begin at 5 p.m., while the first running events will start at 6 p.m.
"We are looking at this meet as an opportunity to get some competition before finals and winter break," said head coach Bert Rogers. "We have been training all fall and it will be a nice test to where we are at with our training and conditioning."
At last year's competition, the Golden Eagles qualified 12 athletes in 10 different events to compete in the BIG EAST indoor championship. Sprinter Tyler O'Brien returns to Notre Dame hoping to build upon last year's success, where he broke two school records and captured first and second in the 60 and 200-meters respectively.
Competing this year will be the sprinters and jumpers, as the throwers and distance runners will not travel to the meet.
The Golden Eagles will be joined by student-athletes from Notre Dame, DePaul, and Detriot-Mercy.
