Armstrong Claims BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week Honors

Dec. 12, 2017

Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – The BIG EAST Conference announced its first set of weekly awards and Marquette University sophomore Daniel Armstrong was named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week after an impressive season debut, the league announced Tuesday.

Armstrong collects his second BIG EAST weekly award, including his first such indoor honor after taking home a victory in the high jump at the season’s first meet, the Blue & Gold Invitational hosted by Notre Dame (Dec. 1). His mark of 2.17 meters (7-1.5 feet) was an indoor personal-best and rated No. 2 in program history while, at the time, ranking the second-best in the nation this season.

His height would’ve been good enough for an eighth-place finish at the 2017 NCAA Division I Championships. Currently, the Michigan City, Ind., native leads the BIG EAST and ranks fifth nationally.

After the conclusion of winter break, the Golden Eagles will return to action at the John Tierney Invitational hosted by UW-Milwaukee on Saturday, Jan. 20.
