ST. LOUIS-- The Marquette cross country squad opened their season Saturday at the Big River Running Early Bird with both the men and women earning team victories.

Pacing the men was senior Kyle Saginus who finished the 6K run in 18:42.9 and was the overall winner on the men's side, edging out the second place finisher by seven seconds. Sophomore Brice Cleland finished fifth in 18:58.9, while freshman Keith Schueller crossed the finish line in 19:29.8.

For the women, captain Jayne Grebinski crossed in 14:32.1, Anna Weber finished in 14:36.4 and sophomore-transfer Olivia Johnson closed with a time of 14:37.2. The trio finished in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Sept. 13 at the NIU Huskie Invitational in DeKalb, Ill.
