Olivia Johnson Claims Badger Classic Title
Sept. 3, 2010
MADISON, Wis. - The Marquette men's and women's cross country teams each finished second at the Badger Classic Friday afternoon, while senior Olivia Johnson captured the women's race with a time of 14:20.
"Olivia won the women's race and ran well," head coach Mike Nelson said. "I felt like it was definitely a step in the right direction for the women and the men had a great day as well. It was a good opportunity for us to come out and run the course before the Wisconsin Invitational in October."
Johnson paced the Marquette women, who placed second behind Northwestern. Sophomore Carly Windt placed 10th overall and second on MU, while Courtney Kelly and Bekki Misanin placed 15th and 16th, respectively. Freshman Sarah Ball rounded out the top-five finishers for the Golden Ealgles in her first collegiate meet with a 18th-place finish in 15:13. Seniors Kristin Pelzel and Laurie Dalrymple also ran and finished 19th and 20th overall.
The men took spots 6-10 with senior Brice Cleland leading the way in 25:26. Junior Blake Johnson took seventh in 25:35, sophomore Jack Senefeld eighth in 25:39, Nick Szczech ninth in 25:43 and Peter Bolgert 10th in 25:51.
