NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The Marquette University men's cross country team placed fourth and the women's team third at the 33rd National Catholic Championships at the Burke Memorial Golf Course Friday afternoon in Notre Dame, Ind.

The men, who finished second at last year's meet, were led by senior standout Connor Callahan. Callahan notched a 13th-place finish, posting a time of 24:58.

Freshmen Cody Haberkorn and William Hennessy, coming off very impressive performances at last week's NIU Huskie Open, helped pace MU by finishing 33rd and 34th with times of 25:51 and 25:52, respectively. Senior Jack Hackett finished 51st with a time of 26:09.

Senior Patrick Maag followed Hackett in 54th place (26:13) for MU, while Mitch Lacy (60th, 26:19), Michael Corr (81st, 26:28) and A.J. Gedwill (95th, 26:36) rounded out the men's top eight.

The women, who finished third at this event last season, were led by a pair of underclassmen, freshman Molly Hanson and sophomore Elisia Meyle. Hanson posted a 16th-place finish with a mark of 18:00.6. Meyle was not far behind, finishing 19th with a mark of 18:11.0.

Freshman Sarah Poirier (29th, 18:27), junior Hannah Frett (32nd, 18:32), senior Christina Sliepka (34th, 18:34) and junior Holly Robertson (39th, 18:40) also were key components in the women's success.

Notre Dame took first place in both the men's and women's championship races.

The Golden Eagles take a week away from competition before making the trek to Louisville on Saturday, Sept. 29 for the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, the future site of the 2012 NCAA Championships.
