Marquette Men Finish Second, Women Third At Midwest Collegiate Open

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Marquette cross country squad concluded competition at the Midwest Collegiate Open Saturday afternoon at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course. The men's team placed second behind Louisville with 74 total places, while the women barely lost a closely-contested meet, finishing with 47 total places, only four behind both Louisville and West Virginia.
Junior Olivia Johnson grabbed the top spot for the MU women, finishing fifth in 18:02.2, while Jayne Grebinski (8th, 18:08.5) and Anna Weber (10th, 18:23.4) rounded out the top 10 for Marquette. Newcomer Molly Arenberg also had a solid race with a 13th-place finish in 18:26.0 and Laurie Dalrymple (21st, 18:49.8) was the fifth finisher for the Golden Eagles.
Racing without its top runner in junior Nick Szczech, the men's squad managed to stay near the top of the field as sophomore Blake Johnson recorded the team's top finish (6th) in 25:32.0. Freshman Connor Callahan proved his importance to the team as a first-year runner with an eighth-place finish in 25:34.8. MU's third runner on the day was junior Peter Bolgert (14th, 25:59.8), while Brice Cleland (21st, 26:14.6) and Keith Schueller (25th, 26:20.9) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Golden Eagles return to action Sat., Oct. 3 in Madison, Wis., at the Wisconsin Inter-Regional Meet.
