NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Sophomore Alec Miller and junior Brittney Feivor led the way for the Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, as both programs compete at the National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre Dame, Friday, Sept. 18.
Feivor took sixth overall in the race and paced the women's side to a fifth place team finish. Jennifer Parker also put forth an impressive effort.
"I think we performed better than our first meet at Wisconsin," head coach Mike Nelson said. "We raced better as a unit and as a team. We're still not quite where we want to be, but definitely a step in the right direction.
"Brittney ran great," Nelson added. "She was right where we expected her to be, up with the leaders and led some of the race. Jennifer Parker had a really nice race and ran much better than she did in her first meet."
Nora Keller and Clare McDonald finished 32nd and 41st overall, respectively, while Kayla Spencer was fifth on the team and 53rd overall for the Golden Eagles.
On the men's side, Miller once again put together a solid outing, taking 12th overall and leading the team to a sixth place finish.
"We had a mix of good and not so good on the men's side," Nelson said. "That hurt us from a team perspective. I don't think we necessarily took a step forward, but I think we learned a little bit and will benefit from it in the future.
"Alec ran great," Nelson added. "Our No. 2, 3 and 4 runners all ran great. (Jon) Klaiber is running fantastic. Not surprising after his first meet, but impressive that he was able to take another leap forward."
Klaiber finished second on the team and 17th overall. He was followed by a solid outings from Cody Haberkorn and Brad Eagan, who placed 36th and 48th overall, respectively.
The Golden Eagles will next compete at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota next Saturday, Sept. 26. Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. Central time.
