Cross Country With Strong Showing at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It was another strong outing for Marquette University cross country as the women placed ninth, while the men took 20th among over 30 teams competing at EP Tom Sawyer Park at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning.
“Happy with the efforts we gave today,” Marquette head coach Mike Nelson said. “This was our best meet thus far, but we were hoping to finish a few spots higher. We will take what we learned and be more prepared for the pre-national meet next week.”
The women placed three runners in the top-48 out of the nearly 400 runners competing, led by redshirt senior Kellie Greenwood’s 27th-place finish in a time of 17:24.5. Senior Brittney Fievor (17:35.5) and junior Jennifer Parker (17:41) took 39th and 48th, respectively.
Junior Jessica Parker made her 2016 debut by finishing fourth on the team and 125th overall with a time of 18:15.8. Redshirt senior Clare McDonald (18:23.5) was Marquette’s fifth finisher, coming in 141st overall.
On the men’s side, junior Alec Miller led the way once again, taking 75th place overall among the 312 competitors with a time of 25:10.74. Sophomore Brad Eagan recorded his highest team finish of the season, coming in right behind Miller in 93rd place with a time of 25:26.49.
Junior Aric Miller wasn’t far behind him with a time of 25:41.86 and 120th place finish. Freshman Ryan Burd (25:43.16) and junior Jack Carpenter (25:45.76) worked together to take fourth and fifth on the squad and 126th and 130th, respectively.
Marquette will look to take advantage of an extra week of rest and training to prepare for a true test at Indiana State for the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Indiana. The meet is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 16 and will be hosted
