TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country squads returned to action Saturday morning at the NCAA Pre-Nationals Invitational. The men's team placed 30th in the blue race, while the women finished 29th.

Sophomore Blake Johnson led the way for the men with a time of 25:51.1 to finish 155th. Johnson was followed by juniors Brice Cleland (170) and Nick Szczech (187) in 25:59.6 and 26:09.9, respectively.

Freshman Connor Callahan (194, 26:12.4) and junior Peter Bolgert (198, 26:21.4) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Golden Eagles.

In the women's blue race, Marquette was led by senior Jayne Grebinski in 83rd with a time of 21:55.9. Fellow senior Anna Weber (148) was the second finisher for MU in 22:37.6, while juniors Olivia Johnson (154, 22:41.0), Kristin Pelzel (165, 22:48.6) and Molly Arenberg (170, 22:52.5) rounded out the top five for the Golden Eagles.

The meet included eight of the top-10 nationally ranked men's teams and seven of the top-10 women's squads. 

Marquette will return to Wisconsin as it prepares to host the 2009 BIG EAST Cross Country Championships in Kenosha, Wis., at the Dr. Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course on Oct. 31.
