BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Marquette men's and women's cross country squads concluded the day at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Saturday afternoon finishing in 12th place and 11th place, respectively.

"Overall it was a good day for the men," said head coach Mike Nelson. "I was happy with the way they ran today. We accomplished the goals we came to the regionals with, which were to beat our regional ranking and finish as close to 300 points as possible. We accomplished both, finishing 12th when our ranking was 14th, and we finished with 320 overall points."

The Marquette men were led by junior Brice Cleland, who finished 27th in 31:52.25. Both marks were the best the Indianapolis native has achieved in his career at the NCAA Regional. His time was almost a full minute faster than his previous best at the regional meet.

Sophomore Blake Johnson finished right behind Cleland in 30th place, with a time of 31:55.14. Johnson finished 129th in 2008 at the regional meet.

Following Johnson were freshman Connor Callahan in 61st (32:40.78), sophomore Keith Schueller in 95th (33:27.15), and junior Peter Bolgert in 107th (33:42.09).

Dominick Rosario and A.J. Gedwill each also ran for the men.

"I thought the women had a pretty good performance as well," Nelson said. "They also beat their regional ranking of 12th and had a solid race."

Junior Molly Arenberg, in her first NCAA Regional, led the women with a 53rd-place finish in a time of 22:21.90.

Junior Laurie Dalrymple finished 65th with a time of 22:32.04 and was followed closely by senior Jayne Grebinski in 66th place (22:32.41).

Also registering points for the women were Olivia Johnson (73rd, 22:39.63) and Maureen Keane (87th, 22:50.39).

Anna Weber and Amanda Beggs also competed.
