MILWAUKEE – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the Division I Scholar Teams of the Year for the 2014 cross country season, naming both Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams to the all-academic list.
This award was bestowed on 226 women’s programs and 179 men’s programs that achieved at least a team 3.0 grade-point average.
The women’s team compiled a 3.71 GPA during the fall semester, making them one of just 15 women’s programs to achieve above a 3.7. “This is truly a special group of women,” head coach Mike Nelson said. “The work ethic they display on a daily basis in both the classroom and on the track is amazing. This is one of the highest team GPAs I can remember.”
The Marquette men posted a 3.28 average GPA to garner a spot on the list.
Michigan State was awarded as the women’s Scholar Team of the Year, while the Stanford men also achieved the honor.
The two winning teams were measured based on their academic success as a whole, the number of all-academic individuals they had, and their overall success during the 2014 season.
