Marquette University head cross country and assistant track and field coach Mike Nelson announced Tuesday the signing of six men and four women middle and long distance runners to National Letters of Intent.
"All of these student-athletes have the ability to make an immediate impact on our team as we continue to climb the ranks of the ultra-competitive BIG EAST Conference," said Nelson. "I am very excited to watch the development of these young student-athletes. Overall, it will be an exciting new era for Marquette University cross country and track and field."
On the women's side, Nelson and the Golden Eagles will add Kate Horan (St. Louis, Mo.), Courtney Kelly (North Bellmore, N.Y.), Bekki Misanin (Sterling, Va.), and Carly Windt (Greenfield, Wis.)
Marquette also adds men's runners Blake Johnson (Saline, Mich.), Patrick Keeley (St. Charles, Mo.), Jon Newman (Lisle, Ill.), Dominick Rosario (Richfield, Minn.), Bill Schlottke (Big Bend, Wis.) and Keith Schueller (Germantown, Wis.).
"Our distance squad is already rich with talent and these new recruits will add to the great tradition that is Marquette University cross country," added Nelson. "One of my goals in recruiting is to bring in student-athletes who can cover all the middle and long distances on the track, but also contribute on the cross country squad. There is no doubt these athletes will accomplish that goal as we are bringing in individuals who can compete in everything from the 400 [meters] through the 10,000."
Additional announcements will be made later regarding the remaining recruiting class for the Golden Eagles track and field squad led by Bert Rogers, who is currently in his first year as head coach.
