MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams will host the 2013 BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Somers, Wis., highlighting the 2013 schedule release.

"We are happy to announce that we will once again be hosting the 2013 BIG EAST Championships in Southeastern Wisconsin with several national powers competing in the meet," Marquette head cross country coach Mike Nelson said. "The BIG EAST Conference will continue to be a dominant power in cross country and that will be reaffirmed on Nov. 2."

This season will mark the second time that Marquette has hosted the BIG EAST Championships, with the previous coming in 2009 at the same venue.

The BIG EAST, especially on the women's side, should remain strong nationally despite the new look in 2013. Villanova won the national championship in women's cross country in 2009 and 2010, with the Georgetown women following in 2011. Providence was the NCAA runner-up on the women's side in 2012.

The Golden Eagles' 2013 campaign begins on Friday, Sept. 6 at the Badger Classic, held at Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Wis.  On Sept. 20 the teams will head to Notre Dame, Ind., where they will compete at the National Catholic Championships for the fourth-straight year at the Burke Golf Course.

"The schedule looks similar to years past because we believe competing in familiar environments against top-level competition is the best way to prepare for the championship portion of our season," Nelson said. "We have strategically scheduled meets at both Wisconsin and UW-Parkside to give our athletes an opportunity to compete on the courses where our championship meets will be held. We are lucky in that our location puts us in proximity of several first-class cross country venues."

Following an off week after competition at Notre Dame, the Golden Eagles will travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete at the Greater Louisville Classic at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park on Saturday, Oct 5.

On Saturday, Oct. 12 the Golden Eagles run at the Lucien Rosa Invitational, hosted by University of Wisconsin-Parkside at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course, giving them a preview of what to expect for the conference meet.

Marquette will send both squads to Peoria, Ill., on Friday, Oct. 18 to compete in the Bradley Classic at the Newman Golf Course.

The Golden Eagles return to the Zimmer Championship Course for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday, Nov. 15.

The annual Marquette Alumni Run will take place on Saturday, Aug. 24 at Valley Fields. The men begin at 10 a.m., and the women follow shortly after at 10:30 a.m.
