Men’s Basketball begins releasing non-conference slate
Men’s basketball began releasing the dates and opponents for its non-conference schedule on Monday on their Twitter handle (@MarquetteMBB) and will continue throughout the week. Season ticket packages are set to go on sale Monday, July 17. Check out GoMarquette.com/tickets for more information.
Here are the games that have been revealed so far:
Basketball newcomers all on campus
All basketball newcomers along with a number of other student-athletes arrived on campus prior to the Fourth of July to begin classes for Marquette’s second summer session. The men’s basketball team held its first full team workout on Monday afternoon at the Al McGuire Center.
Buycks helps Mavs title; Blue and Wilson excel in Vegas
Dwight Buycks scored 28 points with six assists, five rebounds and three steals to help the Dallas Mavericks to a title in the Orlando NBA Summer League last Wednesday with a perfect 5-0 record. Buycks played nearly 41 minutes in the win and ran the point after teammate Cat Barber went down with an injury early in the contest.
In addition to the stellar play of Buycks and Henry Ellenson in Orlando, the Las Vegas Summer League has featured another pair of former Golden Eagles in starring roles.
Jamil Wilson has posted back-to-back 18 point games and recorded a near triple-double in Monday night’s win over the Milwaukee Bucks with 18 points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Reigning G-League MVP Vander Blue has started two of three games and notched 21 points and six rebounds on Monday as he led the Los Angeles Lakers back in the fourth quarter for a 95-92 win over Sacramento.
Trent Lockett has seen action in one game for the Atlanta Hawks in Vegas.
Marquette well represented at US Lacrosse tryouts
Four players with ties to the Marquette men’s lacrosse program are currently engaging in tryouts for the 2018 U.S. Men’s National Team at the US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Maryland. Former USILA All-Americans Liam Byrnes (LSM), Jacob Richard (SSDM) and B.J. Grill (D) are joined by volunteer assistant coach Ryan Brown (A) in the tryout field, which will eventually be whittled down by a U.S. coaching staff that includes Marquette head coach Joe Amplo as an assistant.
Cross country to host 2017 BIG EAST Championships
For the third time, the Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Championships in Somers, Wisconsin at the Dannehl Cross Country Course on Saturday, Oct. 28. The Golden Eagles unveiled their full 2017 schedule at the end of last week, which includes annual dates at Notre Dame’s National Catholic Championships, the Louisville Classic, Bradley “Pink” Classic and NCAA Great Lakes Regional. Golden Eagles Alumni to train at the Al on July 11-14
Led by general manager Dan Fitzgerald (’08) the Golden Eagles, a team comprised of former Marquette basketball players, will compete for the second year in a row in The Basketball Tournament for the $2 million prize. MU head coach Steve Wojciechowski and staff will welcome the squad back to campus on July 11-14 for a training camp at the Al McGuire Center.
The Golden Eagles have earned the Midwest Region’s No. 1 seed and will face Midwest Dream Squad in the first round on July 15 in Peoria, Illinois.
Should the Golden Eagles advance, they could face eighth-seeded Majerus SLU Crew in the second round, a team of Saint Louis alumni playing in honor of former Marquette graduate and head coach Rick Majerus.
The Super 16 takes place July 20–23 in New York (ESPN/ESPN2) and the championship game is slated for Aug. 3 in Baltimore and will be televised by ESPN.
Register today for the M Club Golf Outing
The Marquette M Club Golf Outing is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 14 in Wales, Wisconsin at The Legend at Brandybrook and early bird registration is available until July 14. Only limited spots still remain.
