MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams have announced the addition of 23 incoming freshmen for the 2013-14 academic year, including nine student-athletes who will also run cross country in the fall.

Four different states and one Canadian province are represented in this year's class, which includes six jumpers, six sprinters and a one thrower in addition to the nine distance runners.

The group of student-athletes will assist the Golden Eagles as they make the transition into a new era of the BIG EAST Conference in 2013-14.

Head coach Bert Rogers on Abdulahi: "Oumaru is quite an impressive young man and I'm excited to have him as a part of our MU family. I've had my eye on Oumaru since his sophomore year and he has impressed me greatly with his athletic ability, his hard work and determination. Oumaru comes to MU from Mooseheart High School where he's jumped 6-feet, 10 inches in the high jump and 22-8 in the long jump. In addition, he's performed well in both the 4x100- and the 4x400-meter relays. I look for Oumaru to score a lot of points at the BIG EAST meets and I have no doubt that he will progress nicely at MU."

High School: Abdulahi was a four-time letter winner in track and field at Mooseheart High School ... Graduated with the program record in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 10 inches ... Captured IHSA Boys State A championship in the high jump as a sophomore (6-08) and was the state runner-up as a senior (6-10) ... Won a sectional title in both the long jump and high jump as a junior in 2012 and a senior in 2013 ... Also sectional high jump champion as a sophomore ... Took third in the state finals in the high jump as a freshman, reaching 6 feet, 7 inches ... Brandon Bell | Sprints | Bloomington, Minn. | John F. Kennedy H.S.

Rogers on Bell: "Brandon has a ton of upside and I see his speed really developing as he gets stronger and more experienced. Brandon is a raw talent and will add needed depth to the men's sprint corps."

High School: Bell earned three letters in track and field at John F. Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Minn. ... Named team captain as a junior (2012) and senior (2013), while earning most valuable performer honors all three years ... Competed in the Minnesota state meet as both a junior and senior and was a three-year all-conference sprinter ... Held a personal-record of 11 seconds in the 100-meter dash and 22.47 seconds in the 200 ... Also lettered three times in basketball and was team captain as a senior.

Dwayne Dash Jr. | Jumps | Savannah, Ga. | Sol C. Johnson H.S.

Coach Rogers on Dash: "As his name portends, Dwayne comes to us as a long jumper and sprinter.  Dwayne hails from Johnson High School in Savannah, Ga., where he's long jumped over 23 feet and has performed at a high level in the sprints and sprint relays. One of the first qualities I noticed in Dwayne is that he's a student of his events and is always looking for ways to improve his ability. With balanced training, Dwayne will make big improvements in his performance and will immediately contend for a podium spot in the long jump at the BIG EAST Championships. Dwayne is the type of athlete that will not only improve his own performance, but will make those around him better as well. We are excited to have him join the MU jumps/sprint crew."

High School: Dash earned three letters in track and field at Sol C. Johnson High School ... Named captain of the track team his junior and senior year ... Earned first team all-region three years straight ... Notched a fifth-place finish in the 5A state finals as a junior in 2012 in the boys long jump after finishing fourth at the sectional and third at the regional meet ... Holds the long jump high school record with 23 feet, 1 inch ... Won regional championships in the long jump as both a sophomore and senior... Ran for the Savannah Chatham Silver Cheetahs... Nicholas Ebert | Long Sprints | Chaska, Minn. | Chaska H.S.

Coach Rogers on Ebert: "Nicholas really came on strong as a senior. He paced third in a very fast 400 meters at the Minnesota state meet. This is only his second year running track and he has range from the 200 to the 800. I see Nick as a tremendous talent that will be an impact performer here at MU."

High School: Ebert placed third as a senior in 2013 at the Minnesota Class AA meet in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.02 seconds, which qualified as a new personal-best time ... Part of a 4x400-meter relay squad which placed sixth at the state meet in 2013 ... 2013 Missota Conference Champion in the 200- and 400-meter dashes as well as the 4x400-meter relay ...  Served as team sprints captain as a senior in 2013 ...Held a personal best of 1:57.96 in the 800-meter run ... Also competed in cross county and helped Chaska to an eighth-place finish at the state meet in 2012, while earning honorable mention all-conference honors.

Head cross country/assistant track and field coach Mike Nelson on Edwards: "Max comes to Marquette after a successful career at Appleton North High School. Max was a multiple time conference champion in the 1,600 and 3,200 and was able to qualify for the Wisconsin state meet in those events and the 4x800-meter relay."

High School: Edwards was a two-year letter winner in cross country and track and field at Appleton North High School... Was the No.1 distance runner on the track team in 2012 for the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs ... Helped track and field team to a conference championship in 2011... Won the Fox Valley Association Conference Championship for relays in 2010 and 2013... Anchored in two consecutive conference relay championships for the distance medley relay... Nate Gomoll | Distance | Whitefish Bay, Wis. | Whitefish Bay H.S.

Coach Nelson on Gomoll: "Nate was able to earn all-state recognition in both cross-country and track and field during his prep career.  He placed seventh at the 2012 state cross country championships with a time of 15:45 on the difficult "Ridges" cross country course.  He ran 4:15 in the 1,600 meters during the spring of his junior year to score at the state track and field championships. Nate was a two-time North Shore Conference cross country champion, taking the titles both his junior and senior years." 

High School: Gomoll earned four varsity letters in both track and cross country at Whitefish Bay High School ... Captain of both his track and cross country teams his junior and senior years ... Coach Nelson on Kaestner: "Ryan was able to close out his prep career with appearances at the Wisconsin state meet in the 1,600 and 3,200 and set personal bests in both as a senior. He consistently ran in the low 16's for 5k during the cross country season and ended the year with a personal best of 16:00."

High School: Kaestner earned three letters in both cross country and track at Horlick High School... Named team captain his senior year (2012-13)... Was a 2011 and 2012 state qualifier in cross country... Earned first team all-conference in cross country for the 2011 and 2012 seasons... Was a three-time All-Racine County First Team honoree ... John Krzyszkowski | Throws | Mississauga, Ontario | Port Credit Secondary School

Associate head coach Michael Koenning on Krzyszkowski: "John will primarily throw javelin for us and he's already shown he can make an immediate impact. His current best throw of 208 feet, 4 inches (63.50m) is well above our current school record and that mark also would have qualified for the NCAA preliminary round in 2013.  He'll look to contribute in the shot put at the BIG EAST level, an event where he's shown continued improvement this summer. John is a very dedicated and hard-working young man that'll bring great energy to our team."

High School:  Krzyszkowski earned five letters for track and field at Port Credit Secondary School while also playing basketball and volleyball ... Won the silver medal in the men's javelin (63.83 meters) at the 2013 Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships on July 13, 2013 to qualify for the 2013 Pan American Junior Athletics Championship in Medellin, Columbia on Aug. 23-25 ... Also competed at the 2013 Canadian Junior meet in the shot put and placed 10th with a top toss of 14.58 meters ...  Named the Port Credit track and field overall MVP for four consecutive years ... Named the athlete of the year in 2009, 2010 and shared the honor in 2013 ... Holds the Port Credit record in the javelin (800g) with a throw of 63.50 meters, which he used to claim the Ontario South Regional Championship in 2013 ... Carson Meinholz | Sprints | Burlington, Wis. | Catholic Central H.S.

Coach Rogers on Meinholz: "Carson is a strong 200/400 runner and will be a big help in the long sprints. He will make an immediate impact in the relays and improve the depth of the sprint corps."

High School: Meinholz earned four letters in track and field at Burlington Catholic Central High School ... Was a three-time state qualifier in the boys 400-meter dash and placed fourth at the state meet in both 2012 and 2013 as a junior and senior ... Held a personal best in the 400 meters of 49.89 seconds at Catholic Central, which he recorded as a junior at the state meet ... Earned second team all-county honors in 2012 and 2013 in the 400 ... Also notched PRs of 22.24 seconds in the 200 and 11.08 seconds in the 100 during his high school career ... Mark Norland | Long Sprints | Spirit Lake, Iowa | Spirit Lake H.S.

Coach Rogers on Norland: "Mark is newcomer to track. He is someone with strong potential in the 400 and 800 sprints. I expect him to work well with Anton Rice and the rest of the 400/800 training group."

High School: Norland ran cross country and track for just one year as a senior at Spirit Lake High School in 2012-13 ... Finished fourth in the boys 1,600-meter run at the Iowa 3A state meet as a senior with a time of 4:21.31 ... Helped 4x800-meter relay to a third-place finish at the state meet in 2013 ... The Indians captured a district track and field championship in 2013 ... Held an 800-meter run personal-best time of 1:56.89 ... Also earned three varsity letters in wrestling during high school career.

Ryan Olsen | Sprints | Elgin, Ill. | Burlington Central H.S.

Coach Rogers on Olsen: "Ryan had a great senior year and ended up as one of the fastest 400 runners in Illinois. Ryan is a very hard worker who is also going to be an Army ROTC cadet. I expect Ryan to round out our excellent class of 400 runners and help bolster the team in that area for his career at MU."

High School: Olsen earned letters in track and field as a junior and senior at Burlington Central High School ... Served as team captain as a senior and earned MVP honors as well in 2013 ... Finished as state runner-up as a senior in the 400-meter dash at the Illinois state championships and held a personal-best time of 48.71 seconds ... Part of a 4x400-meter relay team with the Rockets that earned state runner-up honors in 2012.

Joel Swanberg | Pole Vault/Hurdles | Manhattan, Ill. | Lincoln-Way Central H.S.

Coach Rogers on Swanberg: "Joel has flown under the radar up to this point and I expect him to improve very quickly. Joel comes to MU as both a pole vaulter and a 110-meter high hurdler. He performed very well in just a few meets last year having his senior year cut short due to an ankle injury. With his size and ability level, Joel has the intangibles to become a high-level performer on both conference and national stages. In addition to the strong, young talent of John Kaplan and Vinny Martello, I feel that Joel will round out a very steadily improving men's pole vault group."

High School: Swanberg was a four-year letter winner in track and field at Lincoln-Way Central High School ... Was team captain as a senior in 2013 ... Earned the 2012 team MVP award ... Broke his foot midway through his senior year and was unable to compete during the outdoor championship season ... Holds a personal best in the pole vault of 14 feet, 9 inches, which helped him place 13th at the IHSA Boys Class AAA State Finals in 2012 as a junior ... Ran the 55-, 60- and 110-meter hurdles during his high school career.

Christian Zambrano | Distance | Palatine, Ill. | Palatine H.S.

Coach Nelson on Zombrano: "Christian comes to Marquette from a very successful Palatine High School program. His high school team twice earned all-state honors in the 4x800-meter relay at the Illinois state championships.  He was also a multiple time conference champion in the Mid-Suburban League."

High School: Zambrano earned varsity letters in both cross country and track his junior and senior year at Palatine High School... Named captain for the 2012-13 season... Was a two-time all-conference cross country runner... His Palatine cross country team ended the 2011 season ranked sixth in the nation according to and the National High School Coaches Association... Helped his team to a 2011-12 state championship in cross country... Earned three track and field all-conference honors... Helped his team win its 10th-straight conference title in the 2012-13 season, breaking the record for the longest dual meet win streak in the conference with 170 wins in 11 straight years... Holds personal-best marks of 1:55 in the 800-meter run, 4:17 in 1,600 meters, 9:18 in the 3,200 and 15:00 in the three mile run.

Bridget Bodee | High Jump | Darien, Ill. | Hinsdale South H.S.

Coach Rogers on Bodee: "Bridget comes to MU with a personal best high jump of 5-foot-6 and will fit in very nicely with the jumpers we currently have in our program. Bridget reminds me of our former high jumper, Sarah MacCourtney, not only in her ability level, but also her stature. Bridget is tall and has solid technique, and she will only improve has her strength and speed improves. I look for Bridget to have a very productive career at MU and she will make an immediate impact at the BIG EAST level."

High School: Bodee was a two-year letter winner at Montini Catholic High School and finished her high school career earning two letters at Hinsdale South High School... Took sixth in the IHSA State Finals as a sophomore and seventh in the state as a junior... Set a Montini school record in the high jump, reaching 5 feet, 6 inches... Earned all-conference honors for three consecutive years and academic all-conference honors in her final two years at Hinsdale South... Named the track and field captain her senior year... Jumped for the Jump High Athletic Club.

Personal: Born on May 26, 1995 in Chicago to Sheila and Rick Bodee... The middle of three children ... Has two brothers, Rich and Kevin ... Plans to major in biology.

Abigail Busse | Distance | Fond du Lac, Wis. | St. Mary's Springs Academy

Coach Nelson on Busse: "Abby comes to Marquette from a very successful Division 3 Wisconsin high school program, St. Mary's Springs Academy. Abby recently led off her team's state record setting 4x800-meter relay.  She has qualified for the Wisconsin state meet in several events including the 800, 1,600, 3,200, as well as the 4x400- and 4x800-meter relays."

High School:  Busse was a four-year letter winner in cross country and track at St. Mary's Springs Academy... Named the track and field and cross country captain her senior year... Was a four-time state qualifier in cross country... Earned academic all-state all four years on the cross country team... Awarded cross country MVP her senior year... In track, she was the conference champion her senior year in the 4x800-meter relay, as well as the 1,600-, and 3,200-meter runs ... Was a four-time state qualifier in five events total ... Two-time state champion in the 4x800-meter ... Helped her track team to three conference championships, four regional championships, one sectional title and a second-place finish in the state finals in 2013 ... Recorded a personal best time of 5:17.97 in the 1,600-meter run to win the Flyway Conference title in 2013 ... Holds a PR of 11:35 in the 3,200 and of 2:21 in the 800 ... Brittney Feivor | Distance | Pleasant Prairie, Wis. | Tremper H.S.

Coach Nelson on Feivor: "Brittney had an outstanding spring during her senior year of competition. She was able to drop her 3,200 personal best by 40 seconds from her junior year to her senior year. She set her personal best at the Wisconsin state championships, running 10:46 to place fifth overall. She was also a key member of the Trojans state championship track and field squad. Brittney was the county, conference, and sectional cross country champion running a 4k PR of 14:38 on the UW-Parkside course."

High School: Feivor earned four letters for cross country and three for track and field from Tremper High School... Named cross country captain as a senior for the 2012 season ... Qualified for the state cross country meet all four years of high school... Earned second team all-state in cross country her senior year... Named cross country team MVP her junior and senior seasons ... Named a WCCCA Academic All-State recipient in 2009, 2011 and 2012... Won two individual sectional championships in cross country ... Won the individual conference championship for girls in 2012 ... Earned first team all-county and first team all-conference in 2009, 2011 and 2012 ... Mariah Frank | Distance | Appleton, Wis. | Appleton West H.S.

Coach Nelson on Frank: "Mariah wrapped up her high school career with two personal bests at the Wisconsin state championships. Mariah was able to score points in both the 1,600 and 3,200, running times of 5:11 and 10:51. She steadily improved throughout her high school career bringing her 4k cross-country personal bests from the 16-minute range all the way down to 14:37."

High School: Frank earned three letters in cross country and two in track and field at Appleton West High School... Elected captain for cross country and track and field for the 2012-13 season... Named WIAA Female Scholar Athlete for Appleton West... Earned MVP in 2011-12 for track and field and MVP for cross country in 2012-13... Holds the school record for the one-mile run with a time of 5:10.25 and personal-best in the two miles of 11:15.58.

Personal: Frank was born in Santa Monica, Calif., to Angela and Gary Frank... Plans to major in exercise physiology.

Nicole Jaffke | Pole Vault | Libertyville, Ill. | Libertyville H.S.

Coach Rogers on Jaffke: "Nicole is one of the more technically sound pole vaulters that we've had in recent years. Nicole comes to MU having jumped 12 feet in high school and is one of the more accomplished recruits we've had in her event. Although Nicole has proven herself to be a strong and consistent competitor, she stands to gain a lot from proper strength and speed training. I expect Nicole to have many big jumps this year and I'm excited to see her develop in our program."

High School: Was a four-year letterwinner in both track and field and cross country at Libertyville High School... Broke the school's pole vault record of 11 feet, 3 inches as a junior and set a new PR at 12 feet as a senior ... Was an IHSA 3A state qualifying pole-vaulter as a junior and senior year... She placed 22nd at state by running a 3-mile personal best time of 17:26.  She has also run sub 18-min for 3-miles on numerous occasions."

She has competed at the national level on multiple occasions including trips to the Nike Cross Country National Championships and the prestigious Penn Relays.  She was a three-time state champion in the 4x800-meter relay and during her junior year, her team set the all-time state record of 9:00.42. While in high school, her cross country team never finished worse than third at the state championships."

High School: Parker earned four letters in both cross country and track and field at Neenah High School ... Served as team captain of both squads during her senior year ... A three-time Appleton Post-Crescent Girls' Cross Country Runner of the Year ... Anna is a recipient of the Gates Scholarship and will be very strong in the classroom as well."

Coach Rogers on Tseumah: "Omo is a fantastic talent in the high jump and is built for this event.  Omo is 6-feet-tall and has great jumping ability. At Huntley High School, Omo won the Illinois state title and has jumped 5-foot-8 many times. With the proper training and approach work, it's my belief that Omo will contribute greatly, not only at the BIG EAST level, but at the national level as well. Omo has the raw talent to become an All-American and I feel that she's going to surprise a lot of people in the next few years. Her goal is to jump 6 feet and I have no reason to believe that Omo won't accomplish that and much more at MU."

High School: Tseumah is a four-year letter winner in track and field at Huntley High School ... Won the IHSA Girls Class 3A State Championship in the high jump as a senior in 2013 with a height of 5 feet, 8 inches ... Set a school record with a high jump of 5 feet, 8 inches as a freshman ... Earned all-conference and all-state honors in the high jump and finished second in the event at the IHSA Girls Class 3A State Championships with a leap of 5 feet, 6 inches as a junior in 2012 ...
