“The 2015 cross country schedule looks very similar to the 2014 campaign,” head coach Mike Nelson said. “This gives us the opportunity to see how each athlete has progressed from one year to the next. Our goal is for each individual to improve upon his or her performances from year to year. As each individual improves, the team also improves.”
The season begins Friday, Sept. 4, with the Badger Classic at the Zimmer Championship Course in Verona, Wisconsin. Two weeks later, the Golden Eagles head to Notre Dame to compete in the National Catholic Championships before closing out the month at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota, Saturday, Sept. 26.
The road leading up to the BIG EAST Championships leads through Peoria, Illinois, where Marquette will run its final tune-up at the Bradley Classic, Oct. 16.
“The ultimate goal of the schedule is to prepare our student-athletes for BIG EAST and NCAA level competition,” Nelson added. “We want to be at our best when the championship portion of the season rolls around.”
The BIG EAST Championships will shift to Mason, Ohio, situated just outside of Cincinnati, on Oct. 31. Marquette will be looking to improve on its 2014 results when the women took fifth and the men placed sixth.
On Nov. 13, the NCAA Great Lakes Regional takes place at a familiar location in the Zimmer Championship Course in Verona.
The season will conclude at the NCAA Championships, which will take place at EP Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky, Nov. 21.
