Aug. 19, 2010

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University head cross country coach Mike Nelson has announced the addition of Kyle Cameron as an assistant coach with the cross country and track and field squads. Cameron will assist the track and field program with the middle and long distance runners.

"We are extremely excited to announce that Kyle Cameron will be joining our coaching staff," Nelson said. "Kyle is a very motivated and enthusiastic young coach and we believe this will be the start of a very promising collegiate coaching career."

Cameron comes to Marquette following one year at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville as a graduate assistant coach, where he handled a vast array of administrative and coaching duties.

"For being such a young coach, he brings a wealth of knowledge in training theory, recruiting, and administrative work.  He understands what it takes to succeed as a college coach at the NCAA Division I and BIG EAST level.  He will be a tremendous asset to our coaching staff."

One of Cameron's main responsibilities at SIUE was social media promotion and creation, playing the lead role in making the Cougar track and field squad one of the most followed in the nation.

Cameron graduated magna cum laude with a bachelors degree in physical education in May of 2009 at SIUE and is currently pursuing his masters degree in education with a specialization in sport management. As a senior, Cameron was given the SIUE Cougar Cadre award, honoring the top male student-athlete at the University, in addition to earning the Ohio Valley Conference's Medal of Honor, which is given to the student-athlete with the top GPA in their respective sport.

He was a two-time NCAA Division II Academic All-American and qualified for the NCAA National Championships twice in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.

Cameron is a native of East Moline, Ill., and has also played an active role with the Special and Senior Olympics in addition to Habitat for Humanity and the American Red Cross.
