Aug. 27, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country and track and field teams held their fifth annual Alumni Run Saturday morning at the Melvin "Bus" Shimek Memorial Track & Field Facility at Valley Fields. Current senior Connor Callahan won the men's race in 9:20, while sophomore Elisia Meyle, took the women's title in 11:03.
"We had roughly 45 cross country and track and field alums in attendance Saturday and some of them do the run while others just came for the picnic and fellowship," head cross country coach Mike Nelson said. "Overall it was a great experience for the student-athletes and the alumni. There was a lot of communicating between the groups, which I think is very positive. It is a good `rust-buster' for us as we get back into the racing season and it was a great way to start the year."
On the men's side, Blake Johnson (Class of 2012) placed 14th and finished in 9:49.The top three runners on the women's side were all underclassmen. Kallie Greenwood and Molly Hanson finished behind Meyle with times of 11:13 and 11:14, respectively. Susie and Terri Emond (Class of 2006) earned the top spots for the alumnae, finishing fifth and ninth on the women's side.
The men's and women's teams begin the 2012 season on Friday, Sept. 7 at the NIU Huskie Open in DeKalb, Ill.
