Marquette Cross Country Opens 2017 at Flames/Flyers Challenge

Sept. 1, 2017

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to kick off the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2, when it heads to Romeoville, Illinois to take part in the Flames/Flyer Challenge hosted by UIC and Lewis University.

Both the men’s and women’s teams placed fifth overall at the BIG EAST Championships a season ago and three garnered all-league honors as now-graduate Brittney Feivor (17th) and senior Jennifer Parker (20th) each placed in the top-20 on the women’s side, while senior Alec Miller finished in 18th place overall for the men.

The men, who open the year ranked 11th in the Great Lakes Region by the USTFCCCA, feature 14 returning letterwinners, while the women, who are 13th in the region, bring back 12 letterwinners.

The Golden Eagles are once again led by head coach Mike Nelson, who enters his 11th season at the helm.

Saturday’s action will begin with the women’s 4K race at 10 a.m. Central time, followed by the men’s 6K race at 10:30.
