MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams will open their season on Friday, Sept. 5, when they head to the University of Wisconsin for the 2014 Badger Season Opener at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wisconsin.

The women will run a four-kilometer race at 5 p.m., while the men's six-kilometer race is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

This will be the second consecutive season that Marquette will compete in the Badger Opener. Last season, the MU men placed third overall, while the women took fourth.

On the men's squad, juniors Andres Tineo-Paz and David Sajdak, will look to carry the success they had in the 2013 season opener, into this season. Tineo-Paz and Sajdak finished the race third and fifth respectively for Marquette, and 14th and 19th overall.

On the women's side, juniors Kellie Greenwood and Kayla Spencer, and sophomore Alison Parker will look to build upon strong 2013 seasons as well. Greenwood was the top runner for the Golden Eagles in all but one race in 2013, including the Badger Opener where she finished fifth overall.

This will be the first of three meets that Marquette will compete in at The Zimmer Course in 2014. The other races are the Wisconsin Open on Nov. 8 and the NCAA Great Lakes Championships on Nov. 11.
