Parker, Pederson Sweep BIG EAST Weekly Awards

Sept. 12, 2017

Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Marquette University cross country has swept the BIG EAST Athletes of the Week as the league announced redshirt junior Jessica Parker and sophomore Daniel Pederson as this week’s award winners.

Both Parker and Pederson earn their first such honors after impressive individual efforts on Saturday at the Vic Godfrey Open.

Parker continued her season opening success with a 6k-best time of 17:47.6 en route to her first career victory and led the Golden Eagles to a team win as well. The Neenah, Wisconsin, native has been MU’s top runner in each of the first two races, preceding Saturday’s win with a third place finish at the Flames/Flyers Challenge back on Sept. 2.

Pederson was almost equally as impressive, pacing the Golden Eagles for the first time in his career and recording an 8k-best time of 25:14.4. The Spooner, Wisconsin, native finished runner-up out of 167 competitors and led MU to a convincing team victory at the Vic Godfrey Open on Saturday.

Marquette has now claimed three-of-four weekly awards so far this season after senior Alec Miller picked up league honors in the first set of awards back on Sept. 6.

Both Parker and Pederson will lead their respective squads at the annual National Catholic Championships hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 15.
