Greenwood Wins BIG EAST Athlete of the Week

NEW YORK - Marquette University women's cross country redshirt senior Kellie Greenwood has been named the BIG EAST Conference Athlete of the Week after winning her season opening race at the Midwest Classic at UW-Parkside last weekend, the league announced on Tuesday.
Saturday's Midwest Classic win was a triumphant return for the Two Rivers, Wisconsin, native, who has shown she has not missed a beat since being forced to sit out the entire 2015 season due to injury. The BIG EAST weekly honor is the first of her career.
In her first competitive race since 2014, Greenwood breezed to a time of 17:46.3, pacing the field of 138 runners at the Dannehl National XC Course in Kenosha. She won and the led the team to victory as well with Marquette taking first, second and third place en route to a dominant team win in the season opener.
Greenwood and the Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 16, competing at the National Catholic Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.
