Sept. 29, 2006 MILWAUKEE - For the third-straight weekend, the men's and women's cross country teams will take to the slate when they travel to Chicago, Ill., Saturday, for the 34th annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational at Montrose Avenue Beach. The Lakefront will feature 11 races, with the men's 8K at 12:15 p.m., and women's 5K at 1 p.m., concluding the day of events. The Golden Eagle women, last season's champion of the Lakefront, and the men, who finished 11th at the meet in 2005, will run a limited squad, Saturday, as the teams prepare for the Pre-National Invitational, Oct. 14, in Terre Haute, Ind. Juniors Collene Kuenster and Beth Pollard will represent the women's team. Kuenster (19:54) and Pollard (23:24) each competed in the Lakefront last season, and will both be running for the second time this fall. At the Illini Open, Sept. 1, Kuenster finished 32nd and Pollard 49th.
On the men's side, sophomore Steve Briggs and freshman Eric Meissner will compete for MU. This will be the third meet of the season for Briggs, who placed third in his last race, Sept. 15, at the National Catholic Invitational. Last season in the Lakefront, he covered the course in 28:23. Meissner, who finished in 62nd at the Illini Open, will compete for the second time in 2006.
