Cross Country Continues Season with Two In-State Meets

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams return to action Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Wisconsin Invitational on the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Madison, Wis.

The meet will begin with the women's 6-kilometer race at 11 a.m., followed by the men's 8-kilometer race at 11:45 a.m.

On Friday, Oct. 1 a group of athletes will also travel to Kenosha, Wis., to participate in the Carthage College Invite. Friday's meet begins at 2:30 p.m.


Both the Marquette men and women finished second at the Badger Classic on the same course on Sept. 3. Senior Olivia Johnson came out victorious on the women's side with a time of 14:20. 

Johnson and sophomore Jack Senefeld of the men's team will each look to continue their success after both placed seventh at the National Catholic Invitational on Sept. 17. The men's team finished second and the women third at the event.

The host Badgers will welcome seven men's teams ranked in the top 30 of the latest U. S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Poll, including BIG EAST Conference rivals No. 9 Syracuse and No. 25 Georgetown. The Marquette women will battle five nationally-ranked opponents, including No. 8 Florida and No. 10 Syracuse.

The Marquette men are ranked 14th in the Great Lakes Region.
