Cross Country at Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday
2013 GREATER LOUISVILLE CLASSIC
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams will run on Saturday, Oct. 5 in the 12th annual Greater Louisville Classic at the E.P. `Tom' Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky.
Action kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Central time with the men's No. 1 race, followed by the top women's race at 9:15 a.m. CT. Action will continue throughout the day until No. 3 women's race concludes at roughly just after 1 p.m. CT.
The Marquette women notched a 22nd-place finish at Louisville last season, while the men came in 23rd. Sophomore Sarah Poirier is the highest returning finisher for the women (second on MU, 115th overall) and looks to build on her success from last season when she notched a personal-best mark of 18:06.81 in the 5k. Poirier's classmate, Cody Haberkorn, is the leading men's returner and notched a 145th-place finish for the men, good for third on the team in a time of 25:44.66.
E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park has been the site of the 2012 NCAA Cross Country Championships, the 2007 and 2011 BIG EAST Conference Championships, and the 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 NCAA Division I Southeast Regional Championships.

LAST TIME OUT: The Marquette University women's cross country squad placed third and the men fourth on Friday, Sept. 20 at the 34th annual National Catholic Championships in Notre Dame, Ind. Sophomore Kellie Greenwood led the women's squad for the second time in as many meets with a ninth-place overall finish in a time of 17:46.1. Redshirt seniors Jack Senefeld and Spencer Agnew led the Golden Eagles on the men's side with times of 25:40.2 (12th overall) and 25:50.8 (15th), respectively.
The Golden Eagles will host the 2013 BIG EAST Conference Cross Country Championships in Somers, Wis., at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course on Saturday, Nov. 2. It marks the first time MU has hosted the cross country championships since doing so at the same course in 2009.
Head coach Mike Nelson is in his seventh season with the Golden Eagles in 2013.
Redshirt senior Jack Senefeld is the only returning student-athlete to have run in the last three conference championships and has also run in a pair of NCAA Great Lakes Regional meets.
Senior Hannah Frett leads the MU women with two appearances in both the BIG EAST and regional championships.
