“We’re looking forward to traveling to Terre Haute to compete in the ISU Pre-National meet. We haven’t competed in the meet since 2010,” Marquette head coach Mike Nelson said. “The Pre-National meet is considered one of the premier NCAA cross country meets in the country. Teams travel to Terre Haute from all over with hopes of chasing at-large points and qualifying for the NCAA National Championships.
“Overall, it should be a great competition and an excellent opportunity to see how we stack up against some of the best teams in our region and the country.”
The Golden Eagles are coming off of a week of rest after competing in the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 1. The women’s team took an impressive ninth place finish, while the men rounded out the top 20 out of 30 teams. Nelson considered it both team’s best performances of the season thus far.
On the women’s side, MU had three runners place in the top-48 out of close to 400 runners. The leaders of the squad have stayed consistent with Kellie Greenwood taking 27th overall with a time of 17:24.5. She was followed closely by senior Brittney Feivor and junior Jennifer Parker.
Alec Miller paced the men’s team once again, placing 75th overall in a time of 25:10.74. Sophomore Brandon Eagan slated his personal best for team finishes by taking second for the Golden Eagles and 93rd overall.
Both teams are looking to keep the success going on Saturday as the women take to the course first at 11 a.m. Eastern time in their first 6-kilometer race of the season, followed by the men’s 8-kilometer race at 12:50 p.m. ET. The meet will be live streamed via FloTrack.com: http://bit.ly/2dpy86W
