MILWAUKEE - The Marquette men's and women's cross country teams will travel to the Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 29 to compete in the 2011 BIG EAST Cross Country Conference Championships, hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park. The men's 8-kilometer competition will begin at 10 a.m. Central time, while the women's 5K event will start at 10:50 a.m. CT.

The meet includes three men's and seven women's programs ranked in the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Coaches' Poll. The Marquette men are ranked eighth in the Great Lakes Region, up five spots from their previous ranking of No. 13.

Marquette will look to seniors Peter Bolgert and Blake Johnson on the men's side for veteran leadership this weekend as both are having stellar final years at MU. Both runners placed in the top 50 at the 2010 BIG EAST Championships and have been MU's top two finishers in all five of its races this fall.

The Golden Eagles previously competed at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park on Saturday, Oct. 1 in the Greater Louisville Classic. The men placed sixth and the women 20th. Johnson and Bolgert each recorded 8K personal-bests at that meet with times of 24:32.87 and 24:41.30, respectively.

Sophomore Jack Senefeld put on an impressive showing in his first conference championship last season, finishing second on the Golden Eagles and 32nd overall. Senefeld helped MU to an eighth-place finish in the event and the second-best point total they have accumulated since joining the league in 2005.

Freshmen Kenzie Vicker and Elisia Meyle have each paced the Marquette women in a pair of meets while sophomore Sarah Ball led MU at the Badger Open. Meyle and Ball should be at the front of the pack for the Golden Eagles, while Vicker will not compete this weekend after suffering an injury in MU's last meet at the Bradley Classic on Friday, Oct. 14. Ten different ladies have landed in MU's top five this season.

Junior Carly Windt will look to build off her 58th overall finish at the 2010 BIG EAST Championships. Windt finished in 23:10.2 and was Marquette's second-best finisher, helping the women's side to a 10th-place finish.
