MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams are set to host the 2017 BIG EAST Conference Championships presented by Jeep at the Wayne E. Dannehl National Cross Country Course in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, Oct. 28.

Both Golden Eagle teams are looking to improve on fifth-place finishes from a year ago at Van Cortlandt in New York. It tied the men's highest-ever finish, while the women were able to improve one spot from the year prior. For the first time at the BIG EAST Championship meet, three individuals for Marquette collected all-league accolades with Brittney Feivor (17th) and Jennifer Parker (20th) earning the distinction on the women's side and Alec Miller (18th) for the men.

The Providence women's team, ranked No. 7-nationally, and Georgetown men's squad, receiving votes in the latest USTFCCCA poll, will be shooting for their third-straight BIG EAST team titles. In years the Golden Eagles have hosted the BIG EAST meet, league members on the women's side have gone on to win the national title with Villanova taking the crown in 2009 and Providence winning it all in 2013.

Saturday men’s 8K run is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Central time, followed the women’s 6K race at 11:50 a.m. CT. Marquette serves as the championship host for the third time. It will be the second time the BIG EAST has conducted its championship at the Dennehl National Course and and first since 2014.

The men’s side returns its top-finisher from last year in senior Alec Miller, who has paced the Golden Eagles in two of five races this season and placed in the top-seven overall on three occasions. Alongside Miller are notable returners sophomore Daniel Pederson, who boasts three top-six overall finishes and paced MU in three races. Junior Brad Eagan, sophomore Ryan Burd, senior Aric Miller and junior Henry Mierzwa will also be in the mix.

The women return seven runners from last season’s championship entry, highlighted by senior Jennifer Parker, who has paced Marquette in two races this season, including a 12th place overall finish at the team's most recent meet at Bradley. Her twin sister, redshirt junior Jessica Parker, took 30th at BIG EAST last season and has been MU's most consistent performer in 2017. She has paced the Golden Eagles in three of five races and won the Lucien Rosa Invite held at Dannehl back in September.

Also in the mix will be sophomores Mary Hanson, Nora Keller and Caitlin McGauley, along with seniors Meghan Carroll and Alison Parker. Newcomers senior Lauren Fuqua and sophomore Courtney Dugan have emerged .

Last year, the men and women each placed fifth at the BIG EAST Championships, which took place at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y. It marked the second-straight year that the men’s side finished fifth, their highest-ever mark, and the women had moved up a spot from a sixth place finish in 2015.
