Golden Eagles Set For BIG EAST Cross Country Championships
Oct. 29, 2010
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette men's and women's cross country teams will travel to Jamesville, N.Y., to compete in the BIG EAST Conference Championship, hosted by Syracuse University, on Saturday, Oct. 30 at Jamesville Beach Park. The women's race will begin at 10:30 a.m. ET/9:30 a.m. CT while the men's event will start at 11:15 a.m. ET/10:15 a.m. CT.
Running in his fourth and final BIG EAST Conference Championship race, senior Brice Cleland, will look to better his 37th-overall finish from last season. Cleland was Marquette's top finisher at the Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 16, finishing with a time of 25:00 in the eight-kilometer race.
Connor Callahan, Blake Johnson, Keith Schuller and Peter Bolgert, all of whom participated in last year's conference championship, will bring much needed experience to the event. Joining the veteran runners will be Spencer Agnew, Jack Hackett, Garret McKnight and Jack Senefeld who will be competing in their first BIG EAST Conference Championship.
Since joining the BIG EAST in 2005, the Marquette men's squad had its best finishes the last three years (2007-09), placing seventh each time.
The Marquette women will be paced by seniors Olivia Johnson and Laurie Dalrymple, each in their third BIG EAST Championships. Johnson and Dalrymple both transferred to Marquette prior to the 2008 season and have competed on the MU teams that tied for seventh in 2008 and placed eighth in 2009. Dalrymple was the third finisher for MU at each of the last two BIG EAST meets, recording a top time of 22:04 in 2008. Johnson was the fourth finisher for the Golden Eagles with a time of 22:12 in 2008, but struggled with the conditions in 2009 to place sixth on MU.
