Marquette Men 15th, Women 16th at NCAA Great Lakes Regional
Nov. 9, 2012 Men's Results Verona, Wis. - The Marquette University men's cross country team earned a 15th-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships, while the women placed 16th, Friday afternoon at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course in Verona, Wis. Senior Jack Hackett led Marquette for the third consecutive meet, placing 35th overall with a personal-best 10-kilometer time of 32:00. Senior Connor Callahan turned in a time of 32:30 to finish 61st overall, while junior Jack Senefeld followed just 14 seconds behind to place 70th. Senior Patrick Maag (92nd/33:07) and freshman Cody Haberkorn (113th/33:25) also scored for MU in the meet. On the women's side, Marquette was led by a trio of freshmen. Molly Hanson crossed the finish line first for the Golden Eagles, and 68th overall, with a 6k time of 21:48. Kayla Spencer notched a 89th place finish (22:06) and Sarah Poirier followed by finishing in 107th (22:19). Senior Christina Sliepka (109th, 22:21) and freshman Kellie Greenwood (118th, 22:28) rounded out MU's top-five finishers. Regional-host Wisconsin captured the men's race with 43 total places, while Michigan earned the other NCAA Championships' automatic-qualifying spot by finishing second with 73 places. The Badgers' Mohammed Ahmed was the men's individual champion with a 10k time of 30:37. The Michigan women grabbed the top spot with 41 total places and Michigan State followed in second with 77 places. Ohio's Julie Accurso finished the 6k course in 20:07 to pace the women's side.
