Marquette Cross Country Set For Great Lakes Regional

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams head to Terre Haute, Ind. on Friday, Nov. 10, to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships hosted by Indiana State.
The championship races held at the Lavern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course will begin with the women's 6-kilometer race at 10:15 a.m. Central time followed by the men’s race and the first 10-kilometer distance this year at 11:15 a.m.
Marquette is coming off a strong showing at the BIG EAST Conference Championships back on Oct. 28, where the men tied their best-ever league finish, taking fifth place, and had two runners earn All-BIG EAST honors. The women’s side turned in their highest finish since 2005, placing fourth.
Individually, it was the first time the men’s side has had two all-league performers in the same year with sophomore Daniel Pederson and senior Alec Miller taking eighth and 17th place, respectively. For the women, redshirt junior Jessica Parker led the way with a 22nd-place finish as the team’s top-five all finished in the top-34 overall.
The Golden Eagles enter Friday’s regional with the men ranked 11th and the women ranked 13th. Both sides turned in very respectable finishes last year, each improving seven places from the year prior by as the women placed 10th and the men 13th.
In arguably the toughest region in the country, the Great Lakes Regional comprises three of the top-30 teams nationally on the men’s side and five of the top-30 on the women’s side.

Men: Michigan (10th), Michigan State (15th), Wisconsin (25th)
The top-two teams in each of the NCAA’s nine regions advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky., along with 13 additional at-large teams selected by the NCAA. Each of the top-25 individual finishers at Friday’s meet will receive All-Region recognition with the top-four individuals not on a qualifying team advancing to the NCAA Championships.
