Cross Country Heads to NCAA Great Lakes Regional

MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams head to Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, Nov. 12 to compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Cross Country Championships held at the Ottawa Park Golf Course. The men's 10-kilometer championship race will begin at 11 a.m. CT, while the women's 6k will follow at 12:15 p.m. CT.

Seniors Blake Johnson and Peter Bolgert have consistently been among MU's top finishers all season. Last time out, Johnson finished 33rd overall (24:28.6), while Bolgert followed with a 51st-place finish at the BIG EAST Championships on Oct. 29. 

In addition to Johnson and Bolgert, juniors Connor Callahan and Jack Hackett will compete at the event for the second consecutive season. The foursome helped MU to a 10th-place finish at last year's regional meet.

Anthony Gedwill, Patrick Maag and Jack Senefeld will also represent MU on the men's side.

The men are ranked No. 12 in the Great Lakes Region by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while the women are unranked. 

Freshman Elisia Meyle has been MU's top-finisher in its last three events, including finishing 55th overall with a 6k time of 22:01.3 at the BIG EAST Championships. 

Senior Kate Horan and junior Carly Windt are the only returning MU runners that competed in last year's regional. Horan finished 79th overall with a time of 22:19.8, while Windt placed 106th overall.

Joining Horan, Meyle and Windt at the event will be juniors Courtney Kelly and Christina Sliepka, along with sophomores Sarah Ball and Hannah Frett.

The top 25 finishers of the championship race will receive all-region recognition.
