MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's and women's cross country teams will return to action Saturday, Nov. 13 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet in Rochester Hills, Mich. Competition will begin on the Katke-Cousins Golf Course at noon ET/11 a.m. CT with the women's 6-kilometer race, followed by the men's 10k at 1:15 p.m. ET/12:15 p.m. CT.

"With this weekend's meet, we are looking forward to improving upon our regional rankings on both the men's and women's sides," head coach Mike Nelson said. "The men are ranked 14th in the region so our goal is to place higher than that. On the women's side we would like to climb into the top 15 of the region and end the season on a high note.

"A lot of our runners have really improved and are putting in their best seasons ever. We are also looking to get some good performances from Nick Szczech and Kristin Pelzel, who will replace Jack Senefeld and Laurie Dalrymple in our lineup."

On the men's side, senior Brice Cleland and junior Blake Johnson have consistently been among MU's top three runners in 2010.  At last year's regional meet, Cleland finished 27th (31:52.25), while Johnson finished 30th (31:55.14). Cleland has been MU's top finisher at each of the last three meets, including a 32nd-place finish at the BIG EAST Conference Championships on Oct. 30.

Spencer Agnew, Peter Bolgert, Connor Callahan, Jack Hackett and Keith Schueller are also making the trek to Michigan this weekend, in addition to Cleland, Johnson and Szczech.

Senior Olivia Johnson recorded the top 6k finish of her career, 22:12, at the 2008 Regional. Johnson is the only returning MU female runner from last year's regional meet and ran a time of 22:39.63 to finish 74th overall.

The women will also look for good performances from Pelzel, juniors Kate Horan and Bekki Misanin, sophomores Carly Condon, Carly Windt and Courtney Kelly and freshman Grace Magliola.
