Cross Country at NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday
Nov. 12, 2014
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Verona, Wisconsin, for the 2014 NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course.
The women will start things off with their 6,000-meter championship at noon Central time and the men will follow with their 10,000-meter race at 1 p.m.
This weekend’s championship will mark the third time this season, and the fifth time in two years, that the Golden Eagles tackle Wisconsin’s Zimmer Course. The course was the site for last weekend’s Wisconsin Open, as well as the Badger Opener each of the last two seasons. Wisconsin also hosted last year’s NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship at the Zimmer Course, where Marquette’s women took 14th place and the men finished 17th.
In last year’s regional meet, then-sophomore Kellie Greenwood finished second on the team and 66th overall with a time of 21:54. Brittney Feivor was right on her heels, clocking in at 21:58 for a 71st overall finish. Elisia Meyle, Alison Parker and Kayla Spencer also competed in the regional championship last season and will return this weekend.
Marquette’s top two men’s finishers from last year graduated, but redshirt juniors Blake Lawson, David Sajdak and junior William Hennessy all will return for the Golden Eagles. MU can also count on freshman Alec Miller to make an impact at this year’s regional championship, as the West Bend, Wisconsin, native has paced the team in three of the five races in his first season.
The top two teams in each of the NCAA’s nine regions advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Indiana, along with 13 additional at-large teams, selected by the NCAA. Each of the top-25 individual finishers at Friday’s meet will receive all-region recognition.Alison Parker (alternate)
