The Marquette University men's basketball team (10-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) dropped a 62-58 decision at Xavier (12-6, 3-3 BIG EAST) on the road in BIG EAST Conference action at the Cintas Center.

Senior guard Matt Carlino led the team with 27 points and freshman guard Duane Wilson chipped in 12 points. Senior Derrick Wilson had another solid all-around game, finishing with five points, six assists and five rebounds.

Marquette led by as many as many as 11 points in the second half, but Xavier's long-distance shooting proved to be the difference. After knocking down just 2-of-12 from long distance in the first half, the Musketeers collected eight treys following halftime.

The Golden Eagles led 31-22 at the intermission thanks to a defensive effort that forced 12 Musketeer turnovers and turned those miscues into 14 points. Carlino led the way offensively with 10 points and six of the seven players to see action scored at least two points.

Marquette returns to action at St. John's on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. in Madison Square Garden. FOX Sports 1 will provide television coverage.
